Sharon Morrison

Dr. Sharon Morrison, Professor in the Department of Public Health Education, and Dr. Sudha Shreeniwas, Associate Professor in Human Development and Family Studies were named the co-recipients of the 2021 Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in the tenured category!

Dr. Dena Swanson, Chair (HDFS) along with Dr. Robert Strack, Chair (PHE) wrote in the letter highlighting the work of Sharon and Sudha,

“As a campus that is proud of its Carnegie Foundation Community-Engaged Institution classification, it is important to recognize and value the faculty-student-community partner mentoring work being done in and around our campus, city, and state.  Drs. Morrison and Shreeniwas’s community-centric laboratory approach enhances students’ confidence and teaches them empirical skills while they engage with, and contribute to, their target communities.  It is rewarding to observe the unique and innovative team approach they have to mentoring undergraduate students in community-based participatory research…”

The Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award recognizes both pre-tenured (early career) and tenured (career) faculty for their efforts to engage undergraduates in experiential learning through research.

Congratulations Dr. Morrison and Dr. Shreeniwas!
