Montagnard hypertension health fair

The Montagnard Hypertension Research Project again met the call from community by holding a health fair Sunday, November 8, 2015, at the International Montagnard Dega Bible Church in Greensboro.  The health fair was organized after Montagnard church elders voiced concern about congregates having access to flu shots.

The health fair was organized through collaborative efforts of the Montagnard Hypertension Research Project team, community members, nurses from both Moses Cone in Greensboro and from Duke University, and Walgreens.  Walgreens generously donated 150 free flu shots and many giveaways that included such items as hand sanitizer and lotions.

The health fair not only gave away free flu shots, but also offered blood pressure screenings and health screenings, referrals for those with high blood pressure, stress relief and exercise information, a cooking demonstration showing visitors how to prepare low fat and low sodium traditional Montagnard meals, and a nutrition demonstration.  Members from Greensboro’s Participatory Budgetary Project also came offering information to community members.  In all, the health fair was a success.

The Montagnard Hypertension Research Project is currently offering a much larger health fair that will be held in the spring of 2016.
