On Monday, March 16, 2020 Shemeka Thorpe successfully defended her dissertation “A Sex Positive Investigation of Black Women’s Sexual Development from Adolescence to Early Adulthood”.
Not long after Shemeka Thorpe became Dr. Shemeka Thorpe, our UNCG campus was evacuated and the entire world began practicing social distancing.  While there should have been rooms and halls filled with congratulatory words for Dr. Thorpe, she would return to a quiet campus to move out of her office.
Though there has been much sadness to what the novel COVID-19 virus has taken, for Dr. Thorpe, it has not robbed her of continuing her work in the field of Public Health.
Starting in July, Dr. Thorpe will begin the position as a Lyman T Johnson Postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology at the University of Kentucky under the co-mentorship of Dr. Candice Hargons and Dr. Danelle Stevens-Watkins.
Congratulations Dr. Thorpe!  The Department of Public Health Education is proud to have you as a new alumna!!
